Overall Review: I'm amazed by the quality and power of this laptop, perhaps it's the operating system, maybe Asus is using better hardware, but this mini-laptop blows away the Dual-Pentium and the other Celeron laptops I've tried this year. No problems here, this little machine blew me away, everyone I've shown it to wants one (if not two!)Ĭons: The keys could be a tad bigger on the keyboard, or my fingers could be smaller :)

Other "budge" laptops had problems running flash movies/animations full screen or not at all. I've purchased several laptops from Newegg and this is the first one that actually plays Youtube and flash video in full screen with no problems. The display is bright and although small, feels just right for everyday computing. Pros: Small, light, and pretty darn good-looking! The built in wifi works better than most laptops I've owned, it has solid connections even with weak signals.

An Ubuntu Linux install takes up about 2.5GB-3.0GB of space leaving you with 1.0GB-1.5GB of free space. I also have XP nlited on an SDHC card incase I want to use it (can boot from SD). Overall Review: Stock Xandros is awesome but Ubuntu is awesomer so I went with it.

At the price of a normal $2500 Ultra-Mobile, I can buy 6-8 of these little things in other words, If Asus maintains their price point in further revisions, I can keep upgrading for years and still not spend as much as I normally would on a $2500 UMPC.Ĭons: Must take apart chassis in order to upgrade RAM - took an extra 15 minutes and some web surfing to find disassembly instructions. Also, it's cheap enough that when a new version come out in 6 months to a year, I won't feel bad upgrading. Free space is easily expandable with SDHC cards or USB Memory Keys. (Thank you SSD and Linux) I was able to easily install Ubuntu Linux on it and get everything working including the 3D Desktop with compiz-fusion under the Stock RAM. It is faster booting any operating system and beats out my top of the line desktop in speed. This computer is very fast for its price. Yet i use this baby every day! why? bc its ultraportable, yet gives me all the functions i need at lectures, in small groups, to study in the library, and to work - anywhere. Overall Review: i own a $3000 IBM thinkpad with the works (DVD RAM, 1 gb ram, 100 gb hard drive, Radeon vid card, etc), and a $2000 dell xps desktop with a 21 in lcd screen.

you can install win xp if u want, comes w guide and support DVD with win drivers also, os is very stable and trimmed down. it performs basic functions without fuss, has a very nice screen, yet only weighs like a pound, fits in a pocket or purse, and is only 350 bucks. another warning - obviously this is not meant to be a powerful pc, prob terrible at handling games or complex software. but this is not because of layout this is because it is by nature an ultraportable pc so its supposed to be tiny. for the price, this is still a ludicrously good value but for 300 bucks, of course you're not getting a dualcore processor.
